The field of dentistry has evolved over the past thirty years. We are now recognising many non dental pain complaints that present in the orofacial region and these may mimic traditional complaints such as toothache. It is incumbent upon the dentist to make a differential diagnosis when faced with a complex orofacial pain disorder.
These are some conditions that may present as pain in the orofacial region. It is therefore essential to appreciate both medical and dental aspects of orofacial pain.
